Assisi Heights

The Assisi Heights is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Rochester,MN.

Assisi Heights has a grand presence as it sits on top of one of the highest bluffs in Rochester.   The Assisi campus features a majestic chapel, stunning landscape and grounds and preserves some of the greatest views of the Rochester Skyline.   Its limestone brick exterior and its red clay roof catch the eye from many different places in the city.

Chris says that when he sees Assisi Heights from afar it reminds him of a verse from the Bible.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”   Matthew 5:14-16

Assisi Heights is much more than bricks and mortar on a hill.   Since 1877 it has been a community of spiritual sisters who have pledged their lives to follow Jesus and to live a life that is pleasing to God.  Throughout their rich history the sisters have had their hand in a wide variety of services including health care, education, and advocacy and generosity for the poor.

Below is the current mission statement for the Sisters of Assisi.

Led by the Holy Spirit to embrace the Gospel life of continual conversion, through prayer, community and service, in the tradition of Francis, Clare and Mother Alfred, we, Rochester Franciscan Sisters and Cojourners, commit ourselves to be a compassionate presence for peace in our world, striving for justice and reverence for all creation.
