Plummer Building
The Plummer Building is the most prominent, recognizable, and iconic building in the Rochester, MN skyline. Upon its completion in 1929, the Plummer Building became the tallest building in Rochester and remained the tallest building until 2001 when the Mayo Clinic’s Gonda Building was finished. The Plummer Building’s exterior and interior has incredible stonework, with stunning intricacies and unique, notable features including four bird-like gargoyles, a 56-bell carillon, two 16 ft tall, 4,000 pound bronze doors, hundreds of gargoyle-like stone figures on and around the building, and last but not least, thousands of carved shapes and images in stone and brass throughout the building.
During the daytime hours, the limestone, brick, terra cotta trim, and magnificent detail of the Plummer Building draw attention to itself among the Rochester Skyline. During the evening, the Plummer Building has an incredible golden glow, which gives the Rochester nighttime skyline its iconic look.
The Plummer Building is truly magnificent and is something to be treasured here in Rochester.
